A dynamic executive, Michael Dodd has more than 20 years’ experience driving innovation around dual-use technologies fundamental to national security. He has built critical partnerships across government, academia, and venture capital to support this. Michael Dodd also has deep experience in technology transfer management, defense contracting, Capitol Hill engagement, and leading broad teams of professionals to address complex issues through innovation.
Michael Dodd serves as a principal with the NSIC Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) in Carmel, Indiana. DIU accelerates the adoption of commercial technologies in U.S. military services and allied security bases. Michael Dodd steers investments in priority defense areas including space, power and energy, sensors, and autonomy. He is also the lead liaison to the State of Indiana governor, legislators, and senate on DIU programs. His efforts have resulted in a multi-billion microelectronics commons award and a tech hub established in the state.
Beyond DIU, Michael Dodd is a strategic advisor with NSTXL in Washington, D.C. There, he leads efforts in developing critical technologies essential to national defense, including microelectronics and hypersonics. He oversees $2.2 billion in prototype initiatives and supports the resilience of terrestrial and space-based defense priorities.
Michael Dodd is also a strategic advisor with 8VC in Austin, Texas. Early in his career he worked in private equity, and he also served for 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has a degree in political science from The Catholic University of America. In his free time, he enjoys exploring national parks and hiking.
